Now

This is a now page, a snapshot of what I'm working on as of April 2026.

Work

  • Running enterprise IT infrastructure consulting through Advantage — telecom, cloud, and data-center sourcing, primarily for PE portfolio companies navigating consolidations and multi-year contract decisions.
  • Helping operators close the gap between what enterprise IT vendors promise and what contracts actually deliver — before the decisions are locked in.
  • Maintaining vendor neutrality as a process discipline: evaluating options against actual business requirements rather than relationship defaults.

Building

  • Extending PAI (Personal AI Infrastructure) with custom skills, enforcement hooks, and philosophical dialogue systems. The goal is AI that functions as a working partner, not a suggestion engine.
  • Developing an anti-sycophancy enforcer — a three-layer architecture that forces AI systems to tier every claim by confidence and verify those tiers against an evidence corpus the AI doesn't control. The paper and reference implementation are open source.
  • AI Curriculum — a free, open-source adaptive learning tool for people who want to learn AI from the primary sources. Four tracks (Explorer / Practitioner / Builder / Researcher), no login, MIT-licensed. I built the private version for myself against the MIT xPRO syllabus, then generalized it.

Writing

  • Publishing essays on AI consciousness, identity, and displacement at sam-riegel.com/blog — topics I'm genuinely uncertain about, written to work through the uncertainty.
  • Research notes on the philosophical questions that come up when you actually live and work with AI systems day to day.

Supporting

  • Supporting my wife Yentli Soto Albrecht in her work on C9orf72 — a genetic cause of ALS and FTD. My role is operational: grant frameworks, meeting coordination, computational tooling, and the less glamorous work of keeping a scientist functioning while she runs more research collaborations than any one person should.

Not doing

  • Social media. I check LinkedIn occasionally for professional reasons and that's roughly it.
  • Chasing AI trends for their own sake. The work I care about is slow and specific.
